Get Even Yoga, LLC

Zenobia Jeffries Warfield, RYT 500

I am the founder of Get Even Yoga and an advanced yoga practitioner specializing in therapeutic yoga, with more than 30 years of personal practice.

I use evidence-informed practices to help people move and function with greater ease, build confidence in their bodies, manage chronic pain and tension, reduce stress, and develop practical tools for supporting their own well-being. My approach welcomes people of all body shapes, sizes, abilities, and health conditions.

My studies include restorative practices for race-based stress and trauma. I am guided by the holistic and integrative principles of yoga therapy, which recognize the interconnected nature of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

I create welcoming spaces where clients and participants can cultivate resilience, deepen self-awareness, experience restorative rest, and feel more at home in their bodies.

My journey

Finding my way to the mat

My first experience with yoga was in 1995. I was a 20-year-old new mother determined to lose the 60 pounds I had gained during pregnancy. I knew very little about yoga. In fact, much of what I had heard was negative—that it was somehow incompatible with my faith or even “evil.” Yet whenever I practiced, I felt peaceful, grounded, and more connected to myself.

In pursuit of weight loss, I joined a local gym and tried everything: step aerobics, cycling, kickboxing, Pilates, personal training, and yoga. What I did not understand then was that I was struggling with more than pregnancy weight. I was struggling with my body image.

Even before becoming a mother, I had spent years believing I was overweight when I was not. As a teenager and young adult, I cycled through unhealthy behaviors in pursuit of thinness—a glorified beauty standard, still today. Looking back, I recognize that I was wrestling with body dysmorphia long before I had language for it—and that struggle followed me for decades.

Yoga gradually became the one place where I felt at home in my body. Whenever stress, self-doubt, or overwhelm took hold, it helped me return to myself. Through parenting, work, and graduate school, my practice ebbed and flowed, but I always found my way back.

In 2021, I felt called to deepen my practice and enrolled in yoga teacher training—not because I intended to teach, but because I wanted to learn more. Shortly after, I left my career as a magazine editor, a transition I had been contemplating for some time. By the end of the training, I knew I was meant to teach.

After earning my initial certification in 2022, I began working with family and friends and soon discovered a new expression of my purpose: helping people experience yoga as a tool for healing and transformation.

Today, I specialize in therapeutic yoga, drawing from Hatha yoga, mindfulness, breathwork, Yoga Nidra, and meditation. My work helps people reconnect with themselves, strengthen their relationships, and cultivate change that extends into their families and communities.

I once used writing and editing to examine the effects of social injustice and explore possibilities for change. Today, I continue that work through a different medium: the transformative practice of yoga.
